Lee Roy Selmon has a history that combines family scholarship football with volunteer work in the community. One of the first things he did is to help the Selmon relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children on a Eufala farm. The Selmons were also among the three siblings that represented Oklahoma in football. The three brothers were All-Americans. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the first-teamers for the entire year. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi Award for being the top lineman in America. For three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy serving as their starting line-up. The team also took home the national title twice. Third scholarship he was named as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in educational studies. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week while he attended college. He settled down in Tampa after graduation, and played with the Buccaneers for nine years and was three-times all-pro. His business career began. The first job he had was an Account Relations Manager at First Florida Bank, Tampa. He was a member in the past for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder that the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as among the top 10 young people in America. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch larger and weighing the hefty 256 pounds at college when he was an athlete, was captain of his team during the season of 1975. In 1993, he became the athletic director's assistant at University of South Florida. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor that presented the award.
